Stanley was the author or co-author of over 200 papers. She was the president of The Stanley Institute. International Academy for Suicide ResearchShe has served on numerous professional associations’ boards and committees. She continued her clinical practice and treated patients with suicidal thoughts.
Ms. Morris, Dr. Stanley’s daughter, said that her mother was modest about her professional success but was always thrilled to hear from clinicians in far-flung places who had used the techniques she developed to help patients.
“She was deeply touched by that, no doubt,” she said in an interview. “She found it very, very, very meaningful and very passionate. The work was so fulfilling to her, both on a personal level and on a larger level, to have been of service.”
Barbara Hrevnack, was born in Newark on the 13th of August 1949. John Hrevnack was her father and Marie (Wnukowski), Hrevnack were both tool-and-die makers.
She earned a bachelor’s degree at Montclair State College and a doctorate in clinical psychology at New York University.
In 1970 she married Michael Edward Stanley (a neuroscientist) and they published many research papers together. He passed away in 1993.
Dr. Stanley, a Chatham resident who died in Chatham, N.J. was survived by her son Thomas Stanley and her siblings Joanne Kennedy, John Hrevnack, Michael Hrevnack, and Joanne Kennedy.
