Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R. IL), urged the criminal justice to stop Trump from being elected again after Trump was referred by the 1/6 Committee.
Kinzinger tweeted:
Our work on the @January6thCmteWe have criminally referred Donald Trump to DOJ. We now turn our attention to the criminal justice system in order to guarantee Justice under the law. The American people can ensure he’s never elected again.

One of the four criminal referrals made by the committee to the DOJ about Trump is the insurrection referral. This refers to Trump’s conviction for inciting or giving comfort and aid to insurrection. Trump will then be disqualified immediately from federal office.
Rep. Kinzinger said that the criminal system and the American people could ensure that he is not elected again by serving on a criminal jury.
Seeing Trump thrown in jail would be satisfying for those who have watched him systemically break the law from the moment he got into politics, but that is unlikely to happen at Trump’s age.
The more likely outcome, and one that would serve as a deterrent to prevent any future president from following Trump’s lead, would be disqualification from holding office, and that seems to be what the 1/6 Committee is aiming for with their criminal referral.
