The patients with covid-19 admitted to ICUs de Catalunya have gone down for the first time in this fifth wave. This Saturday there are 560 seriously ill patients in these units (12 less than on Friday) and, in total, 2,148 people from the virus in hospitals (53 less than the day before), according to figures from the Ministry of Health.
The occupation conventional plant had five days down, but continued his rise ICUs today. In any case, we will have to wait two or three days to see if it is something specific or a downward trend. Salut hoped to reach peak ucis next week.
Chronology of a fatal July: the month in which the covid-19 squandered the summer of Catalonia
The pressure on primary care also continues to decline , which at the beginning of the month brushed against collapse due to the avalanche of new infections. In the last 24 hours, the CAPs received some 28,861 visits due to coronavirus, far from those 47,000 a day that they had during the worst moments of the fifth wave.
In fact, the activity related to the covid-19 of the CAP has decreased by 11% this week, according to the managing director of the Catalan Health Institute (ICS), Yolanda Lejardi, in an interview with Europa Press.
All pandemic indicators are also falling, although they are still very high. The risk of regrowth (or EPG) this Saturday stood at 785 points (above 200, the risk is still “very high”), 51 less than on Friday.
The Rt (or speed of propagation) has dropped from 0.81 to 0.80. Once this indicator is below 1, the epidemic enters into contraction. And the accumulated incidence in the last seven days has decreased 25.52 points, from 443 cases per 100,000 inhabitants on Friday to 417.48 this Saturday.
For its part, the incidence accumulated in the last 14 days continues to exceed a thousand cases per 100,000 inhabitants: 1,010.70 today.
Another important indicator that remains low is positivity (the number of positives obtained in diagnostic tests). This Saturday it was 15.42%, one tenth less than the day before.
However, it is still far from that 5% that the World Health Organization (WHO) considers the threshold to have the epidemic under control. Although the evolution is good, Salut does not consider lifting any restrictions at the moment, since the pandemic continues in very high numbers.
Contagions and deaths
At the same time, the ‘conselleria’ has notified 5,375 new infections in the last 24 hours, a figure higher than that of Friday (when there were about 3,800), but far from those 8,000 daily that were recorded at the beginning of the fifth wave. In terms of deaths, Salut has reported 63 deaths, compared to 66 the day before.
The fifth wave has taken a different turn throughout this month. By changing the profile of those infected (at the beginning of July they were infected on the young; later, the elderly began to do it ), mortality has also increased.
However, the vaccine has made mortality much lower than that experienced in other pandemic waves. Since the start of the pandemic, 22,641 people have died from covid-19 in Catalonia and another 901,988 have been infected.
Regarding vaccination, Catalonia already has 5,070,375 people with one dose and a total of 4,515,895 with the complete schedule.
