The ‘minister’ of Salut de Catalunya, Josep Maria Argimon, has called this Thursday for pregnant women to be vaccinated against covid-19. “We recommend vaccination to pregnant women,” insisted the ‘minister’.
Although pregnant women “have not entered” in the clinical trials of the vaccine (“they never enter any medicine, due to a safety issue,” Argimon has specified), it has been seen that the vaccine against covid-19 is “safe”. “We have seen that women who did not know they were pregnant have been vaccinated and it has been seen that the vaccine is safe,” he assured.
The ‘minister’ recalled that this fifth pandemic wave has “a great incidence” especially among young people, among whom are pregnant women. Hence the rush to vaccinate them.
According to Argimon, Covid-19 affects these women “like any other person”, but with the risk of being pregnant. “We have seen some cases of premature pact,” he said. There are also other pregnant women who pass the covid-19 at home without greater risk.
The epidemiologist has also called on the general public to continue being vaccinated and has directed his message to those people who, tired of making an appointment and not finding it, have given up. Salut, Argimon has said, has increased the offer of vaccines these days and has called to keep trying.
He himself explained that Salut will hold a press conference next Tuesday that will essentially deal with pregnant women and covid-19.
Near peak income
The Ministry of Health estimates that Catalonia will reach the peak of hospital admissions “this weekend”, approximately. A week later, it will foreseeably reach the peak of income in ucis.
Asked about the possible delay in the health personnel’s vacations, Argimon has assured that he “hopes and wishes” that they should not be touched, but that each center has a different situation. “Vall d’Hebron is not the same as a regional hospital,” he specified. “I hope we do not have to play vacations beyond what was agreed,” he said.
He has also once again been in favor of “not discriminating” against anyone for not having a covid-19 passport, since at this time not everyone has the opportunity to be vaccinated. That is why he rules out that Catalonia asks for this document at the moment to enter bars. “The covid certificate is very useful, but it cannot be discriminatory,” he said.
