The president of Extremadura, Guillermo Fernández Vara , has raised the need to open the debate on the use of the mask next winter , since its use in the covid-19 pandemic has allowed to verify its effectiveness in the fight against influenza and other respiratory viruses.
At a press conference in Mérida, after attending the Presidents’ Conference in Salamanca, Vara explained that he made this approach in that forum because these other diseases fell considerably last year and have practically disappeared in this one with the widespread use of the mask .
The president of Extremadura, a doctor by profession , has highlighted the important savings in money and lives that this measure has entailed, since he recalled that the flu causes more than 50,000 hospital admissions a year in Spain and about 15,000 deaths .
Hygiene, also essential
“The mask and hygiene have shown that they are two fundamental elements to make these winter viruses almost anecdotal ,” he said, for which he insisted that a debate on their use should be opened every year between the December 21 and March 21.
Vara has congratulated himself on the millions of vaccines that are going to arrive in Spain this August, 80,000 of them in Extremadura, and has also raised in the Conference of Presidents the need to decide and address what is going to happen after all the population is vaccinated with two doses and if necessary reinforce the process with a third dose.
Covid certificate
Regarding the covid certificate, the Extremaduran president has explained that in principle the majority feeling of all the autonomous communities is to wait until the entire population has been vaccinated to demand this digital document , since otherwise discrimination would occur among people who have not yet been immunized.
Likewise, in the health field, Fernández Vara has raised the need to stabilize Primary Care personnel and the possibility of addressing the legal reforms necessary so that the MIR exam not only gives access to a specialty, but also to the Public Function.
