When do antigen tests go on sale in pharmacies and how much do they cost? These tests can be purchased without a prescription after the publication of the new Royal Decree that modifies the previous one.
Covid-19 diagnostic tests are one of the tools that facilitate the control of the disease to prevent its spread. Now, the Minister of Health , Carolina Darias, has reported that these tests can be purchased at the pharmacy without the need for a prescription.
The manufacture, import or marketing of these tests are regulated in Royal Decree 1662/2000, of September 29 , which establishes that they cannot be sold without a prescription: “For the sale to the public of self-diagnostic products, the corresponding prescription ” , you can read in the document.
However, the new Royal Decree, which will be presented to the Council of Ministers on Tuesday, July 20, establishes that these tests can be purchased without the need for a prescription at the pharmacy.
What tests will be sold and at what price?
The tests that will be sold for sale are those of rapid detection, although the price of these tests has not yet been reported. In 15 minutes the result is obtained, although the truth is that the reliability is lower than that of the PCR , whose result is later.
Likewise, another type of rapid diagnostic test will also be sold, the antibody test, a type of test that does not detect Covid-19 infection, but may reduce hospital pressure.
The price range that Health will establish for sale in pharmacies has not yet been made public, so we will have to wait for the publication of the new standard, although following the standards of other countries, the price could be between 7 and the 10 euros.
