DRAIN DOCTOR HELPS HOUSEHOLDERS AVOID RIP-OFF CHRISTMAS PLUMBERS
A burst pipe or blocked lavatory is a problem at any time of the year – at Christmas it can be an expensive nightmare. ‘Rip off’ plumbers can charge a small fortune just to take a look at the problem.
Drain Doctor is reassuring its customers that it is maintaining its price check policy, even if it is called out to an emergency over the festive season.
No overtime is charged for evening, weekend or bank holiday emergencies and there are no call-out charges – not even on Christmas Day. Every job is priced before work starts, working to a national pricing menu.
Drain Doctor chairman Freddie Mitman said: “We are truly on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Service requests are handled quickly and efficiently and prices are agreed before the job is done, so there are no surprises. Our constant aim is to give superb and specialised service.
“Drain Doctor customers can rest assured that if they are unfortunate enough to suffer a plumbing emergency this Christmas or New Year, Drain Doctor will not charge any more than at any other time of year.” Launched in the United Kingdom in 1993, Drain Doctor Plumbing has quickly grown to become the country’s largest emergency plumbing and drain repair service. It now provides a 24 hour a day, 365 days a year service in every part of the country with each franchise run as an independent business.
The central principle is to deliver dazzling levels of service in a market plagued by cowboy operators who are overcharging customers for shoddy workmanship.
Franchisees offer a full 24 hour per day seven day per week service with no call out charges and they give fixed-price, no obligation quotes with a full guarantee on all their work.
Technicians are trained not just with technical skills – including the latest techniques such as closed circuit camera drain surveys and no-dig drain repairs – but in customer care that is reflected in such things as wearing overshoes while in customers’ homes and clearing up carefully after every job.

NEW CARBON REDUCTION INITIATIVE HELPS CAMBRIDGE CITY HOUSEHOLDS SAVE ON FUEL BILLS AS COLD SNAP BITES
Householders in Cambridge are set to save on their energy bills as the winter cold snap bites thanks to an innovative new insulation scheme introduced by CAN-East, the organisation representing the 47 local authorities across the East of England.
Under the programme, CAN-East plans to install insulation up to the current standard in every home in Cambridge by 2015. As a result, householders could stand to get either loft or cavity wall insulation for as little as £149 – or even free in some cases.
The scheme, which will be delivered by the Eastern Carbon Reduction Initiative (Eastern CRI) on behalf of CAN-East, will help householders save money on their energy costs by unlocking the grant aid packages that are available to all for home insulation.
CAN-East and Eastern CRI (www.easterncri.org) are working together with Cambridge City Council to reduce fuel poverty, domestic energy consumption and carbon emissions by helping households to adopt low energy and renewable energy technology solutions.
As a first step, Eastern CRI will offer cavity wall and loft insulation to every qualifying home in Cambridge over the next six years through an approved installer.
Bruce Pittingale, Eastern CRI programme director, said: “Householders in Cambridge can keep warm and save money in the next cold snap. All they need to do in order to get loft or cavity wall insulation installed under the Eastern CRI scheme is to visit our website at www.easterncri.org to register for a quotation and book a survey or call us on 0800 2321677.
“A home could be insulated for as little as £149. Some people such as the over 70s qualify to have their insulation installed for free. Subject to the quotation being accepted Eastern CRI will arrange for a registered local contractor to install the insulation required.”
Research shows that, based on an average heating cost of £767, householders can save £115 per year on fuel costs by installing either cavity wall or loft insulation.
Bruce Pittingale added: “Insulation is the first step on a pathway for households to reduce energy consumption, eradicate fuel poverty, cut household bills and deliver carbon savings through the adoption of low energy and renewable energy technology solutions.”
This service, provided by CAN East on behalf of its 47 local authority members, plans to meet the government’s Heating and Energy Saving Strategy target to insulate all homes to current insulation standards by 2015. It will also help householders in the East of England meet the government target of reducing their carbon footprints by at least 80 per cent by 2050.

LARKFLEET GROUP RAISE £8,500 FOR THE WILLOW FOUNDATION
LARKFLEET GROUP RAISE £8,500 FOR THE WILLOW FOUNDATION
Bourne (near Peterborough) based property and development company Larkfleet Group (www.larkfleetgroup.co.uk) has raised £8,500 for The Willow Foundation charity with an event hosted at Peterborough’s Holiday Inn West.
The Willow Foundation offers ‘special days’ for 16 to 40 year olds with terminal or life-threatening illnesses. The special days – which can be anything from a just a quiet holiday to experiences such as balloon flights and car racing – aim to help these young adults escape the pressures of their daily routine and share quality time with family or friends.
The substantial sum of £8,500 was raised by Larkfleet Group through the sale of tickets for the event, an auction of items, a tombola and a raffle with a wide range of prizes. Games of stand up bingo and casino tables also contributed to the total raised.
Throughout the evening, staff and guests were entertained by magician David Penn from the children’s television show The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.
Former Arsenal and Scotland goalkeeper Bob Wilson and his wife Megs founded the Willow Foundation in 1999 in memory of their daughter Anna who died of cancer aged 31. The charity's name, Willow, stems from Anna's nickname and its aim is to replicate the positive impact special days had on both Anna and her family during her treatment.
The charity has a special significance for Larkfleet Group managing director Karl Hick and his wife Helen who organised the event. Helen’s sister Maureen died from cancer at the age of 24 and the couple now support the work of the Willow Foundation in providing help to young adults who are fighting similar illnesses.
Karl commented: “We have had tremendous support in putting this event together and people have been extremely generous. The £8,500 raised tonight will contribute to the fantastic work the Willow Foundation does for so many young adults. I would like to thank my wife Helen Hick and colleague Helen Jones for organising such a successful evening for such a worthy cause.”
