EASTERN REGION HOUSEHOLDS WASTING £1.6 MILLION EVERY WEEK
Householders in the Eastern Region are wasting a total of almost £83 million every year – that is £1,600,000 every week – on heat for their homes which is simply ‘leaking away’ through badly insulated lofts and walls.
Thousands of uninsulated or badly insulated homes in the Eastern Region are each wasting an average of around £210 each year on heat which is escaping but could be captured with proper insulation. Many of these homes could get cavity wall or loft insulation fitted absolutely free – and most of the rest for as little as £149.
The figures have been produced by the Eastern Carbon Reduction Initiative (Eastern CRI) on behalf of CAN-East, an organisation set up by the 47 local authorities across the East of England. Eastern CRI aims to help people cut their energy costs by helping them get the grants that are available to every household for home insulation.
CAN-East and Eastern CRI (www.easterncri.org) are working together with the local authorities to reduce fuel poverty, domestic energy consumption and carbon emissions by helping households to adopt low energy and renewable energy technology solutions.
As a first step, Eastern CRI will offer cavity wall and loft insulation to every qualifying home in the Eastern Region over the next six years through an approved installer. Bringing every home in the region up to current insulation standards would not only save the £83 million per year which is currently wasted but also cut CO2 emissions by 2 million tonnes every year.
Bruce Pittingale, Eastern CRI programme director, said: “Householders in the Eastern Region can be warmer and save money. All they need to do in order to get loft or cavity wall insulation installed under the Eastern CRI scheme is to visit our website at www.easterncri.org to register for a quotation and book a survey or call us on 0800 2321677.
“A home could be insulated for as little as £149. Some people such as the over 70s qualify to have their insulation installed for free. Subject to the quotation being accepted by the householder, Eastern CRI will arrange for a registered local contractor to install the insulation required.”
Bruce Pittingale added: “Insulation is the first step on a pathway for households to reduce energy consumption, eradicate fuel poverty, cut household bills and deliver carbon savings through the adoption of low energy and renewable energy technology solutions.”

NEW CARBON REDUCTION INITIATIVE REACHES ITS 100TH INSULATION INSTALLATION
An innovative new insulation scheme being rolled out by local authorities across the Eastern region has completed its 100th installation just six weeks after its launch. The scheme was pioneered by CAN-East, the organisation representing the 47 local authorities across the East of England.
Under the programme, CAN-East plans to install insulation up to the current standard in every home in the East of England by 2015. As a result, householders could get either loft or cavity wall insulation for as little as £149 – or even free in some cases.
The scheme, which is being delivered by the Eastern Carbon Reduction Initiative (Eastern CRI) on behalf of CAN-East, will help householders save money on their energy costs by unlocking the grant aid packages that are available to all for home insulation.
CAN-East and Eastern CRI (www.easterncri.org) are working together with each of the 47 local authorities in the East to reduce fuel poverty, domestic energy consumption and carbon emissions by helping households to adopt low energy and renewable energy technology solutions.
As a first step, Eastern CRI is offering cavity wall and loft insulation to every qualifying home in the East of England over the next six years through an approved installer.
Bruce Pittingale, Eastern CRI programme director, said: “We are delighted with the take-up of this important initiative – both by local authorities and householders in the region.
“Since the website went live at the start of the year we have been inundated with requests for quotations. To date over 100 installations of cavity wall or loft insulation have already been completed by our approved installers across the region.”
All householders need to do in order to get loft or cavity wall insulation installed under the Eastern CRI scheme is to visit the website at www.easterncri.org to register for a quotation and book a survey or call free on 0800 2321677.
A home could be insulated for as little as £149. Some people such as the over 70s qualify to have their insulation installed for free. Subject to the quotation being accepted, Eastern CRI will arrange for a registered local contractor to install the insulation required.
Research shows that – based on an average heating cost of £767 – householders can save £115 per year on fuel costs by installing either cavity wall or loft insulation.
Bruce Pittingale added: “Insulation is the first step on a pathway for households to reduce energy consumption, eradicate fuel poverty, cut household bills and deliver carbon savings through the adoption of low energy and renewable energy technology solutions.”
CAN East plans to help its local authority members meet the government’s Heating and Energy Saving Strategy target to insulate all homes to current insulation standards by 2015. It will also help householders in the East of England meet the government target of reducing their carbon footprints by at least 80 per cent by 2050.
